Bagadhar Brahma Kishan College, Jalah was originally known as Kishan College. It was established on the 16th day of August, 1978 at Jalahghat of the then Kamrup District, now Baksa district of Assam with the aim of imparting higher education to the locality. After around five years, the college was renamed as ‘Bagadhar Brahma Kishan College’ in order to give recognition to the contributions of Bagadhar Brahma, a noted Social-Worker of the locality. The college begins with P.U. (Pre-University) in Arts in the year 1978 under the principal ship of Sri Sitesh Chandra Sarma Pathak. Sri Gangapada Choudhury, joined the college as Principal in 1982 and led the college to a greater height during his tenure.

The college received affiliation from Gauhati University and the Govt. of Assam subsequently took over the college under deficit grant in aid system in 1986. In his leadership, the college got UGC affiliation under section 2(f) and 12(b) in 1990. Then came Sri Rabindra Nath Patowary and Dr Ramananda Das as Principals. Presently, the college runs  Arts Stream only with higher Secondary and UG level. The college also starts Post Graduate Correspondence Course under the Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), Gauhati University. The college also provides Computer Education and Study Center of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University. Bagadhar Brahma Kishan College is trying its best to impart unique quality education from its inception. As a result of such pursuit, the college was able to achieve ‘B’ grade in NAAC assessment in February 2005 in its first cycle and Grade ‘C’ in 2020 in 2nd cycle. In case of achieving this goal-the role of every member of the college and its stakeholders are to be appreciated. But we have long standing dreams- to introduce science stream in this institution and meet the the challenges of higher education and competition from all ends.

Bagadhar Brahma Kishan College is such a place of unity and fraternity where students from various ethnic groups are studying with friendship and brotherhood. We are trying our best to keep this spirit forever and the college community tries to serve academic ambience of the college so that it can march forward towards sustainable progress in days to come. The undersigned sincerely seeks co-operation and suggestions from all sections of people in general and the college community in particular to establish this rural and the underprivileged center of education a unique and excellent one. I convey my sincere gratitude to my teaching and non-teaching community and my beloved students for their sincere service and commitment to the college. At last, I convey my thanks to honorable Chairman of the G.B. along with other honorable members for their untiring efforts and good will. Sincerely Yours; (Dr Keshab Basumatary, MA, LL.B, Ph.D) Principal B.B. Kishan College, Jalah
